In our Level 1 instructional gymnastics classes, gymnasts are introduced to the basics on each of the four apparatus in gymnastics: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. The skills on the four events are all fundamental and extremely important to the development of future, more advanced skills. Core skills needed to advance to Level 2: Uneven bars - Pull over and back hip circle; Balance Beam - straight jump and donkey kick (low beam); Floor Exercise - forward and backward roll, handstand, cartwheel and round off. In our Level 2 instructional gymnastics classes, gymnasts will build on the skills they learned in Level 1. Many new skills are introduced, as well, and will lead to the advanced gymnastics in the upper level classes. Core skills needed to advance to Level 3: Uneven bars - cast shoot thru; Balance Beam - handstand and cartwheel (low beam); Floor Exercise - handstand forward roll, handstand to bridge, back bend and back handspring over a barrel. Our Level 3 instructional gymnastics classes are held in our main gym, so our gymnasts have access to tumbling pits, high beams and uneven bars to grow their skills and further their gymnastics experience. Once gymnasts have mastered the skills in Level 3, they will move to our open-ended Level 4-7 class. Core skills needed to advance to Level 3: Vault - handstand flat back on resi; Uneven bars - stride circle, long hang pull over; Balance Beam - cartwheel (medium beam), split jump, side handstand (high beam); Floor Exercise - bridge kickover, round off back handspring in pit, front handspring in pit. Our Level 4-7 instructional gymnastics classes are open-ended, with a list of goal skills to work towards. Gymnasts will work with qualified instructors on learning various new skills and working to perfect the ones they have learned throughout the levels. Core skills in Level 4-7: Uneven bars - glide kip, front hip circle, flyaway dismount; Balance Beam - full turn, balk walkover, front tuck dismount; Floor Exercise - back extension roll, front tuck, round off back handspring on the floor. Our junior/high school gymnastics class is also open-ended. Each gymnast will work on the skills of her choice with a qualified instructor. *There are no makeups in our junior/high school instructional class. Our Boys instructional gymnastics classes are structured around increasing strength, agility, focus and physical fitness. The boys will work on each of the six pieces of equipment in boys gymnastics - floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar. As in all of our instructional classes, the curriculum and skills are based on guidelines set forth by USA Gymnastics.
